Calling Baker Mayfield

All eyes on Baker Mayfield tonight as the 1st overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft will get his first start of the year. The Browns will not play most of the starters in tonight’s game but that doesn’t mean Mayfield will be stuck with just guys looking to make the roster either. As it looks right now #72 Shon Coleman right tackle #70, Kevin Zeitler, Right Guard #62 Austin Reiter Center #63 Austin Corbett Left Guard and #78 Greg Robinson Left Tackle will be the starting offensive line. As normal #31 Nick Chubb and #27, Matthew Dayes will be Baker’s running backs. This is what will be most interesting #11 Antonio Callaway and #81 Rashard Higgins will be Baker’s primary targets at wide receiver. Mayfield has already built up chemistry with both. Having guys that you can couldn’t on to make big plays will be key for Baker to have early success in this game. Baker will most likely have #16 CJ Board #10 Da’Mari Scott and #84 Derrick Willies in the rotation. All of this group will help form this key game for Mayfield and the Browns. With the tight end group, it will be #88 Darren Fells and Hard Knocks star #49 Devon Cajuste. I feel this is a good group for the start. Most of the players from tonight’s game are looking to earn one of the final roster spots and I look for them to give 100% in that quest. Mayfield will have two full quarters to prove why he was the first pick and hone his skills to the NFL level. I believe coach Todd Haley will scheme this in a way that’s close to a real game at speed. This is the last chance for everyone including the staff to get ready for the Steelers week 1. RPO’s the hot new term could be the main focus to set a temple for a quick-hitting offense that will fit Mayfield’s style of play. With a focus on how well Haley and Mayfield can communicate as if he was the full-time starter. While most preseason games have little importance in the grand scheme of the year, coming off a 1-31 season with a new offensive coordinator winning the first half tonight will help set the tone for weeks to come. This could also be a big night for running back Nick Chubb. While they will not face the 1st team defense against the Lions the offensive line he’ll have tonight should be able to help open holes to get his game going. Mayfield needs to keep the ball safe, get it out quickly and control his offense. It’s all hands on deck because the Baker Mayfield show is about to begin.
